#Serologic Evidence of Avian #Influenza Virus Exposure in #Livestock, #Egypt, 2024–2026

Abstract

Spillover of influenza A(H5N1) virus to cattle in the United States sparked global concern. We investigated whether endemic avian influenza viruses are potentially spilling over into domestic livestock in Egypt. We detected influenza H9N2 antibodies in 2.5% and H5N1 antibodies in 2.9%–4.5% of tested animals. Additional surveillance will elucidate host infection dynamics.

#Netherlands, Nationwide mandatory #confinement and shielding of #poultry imposed following avian #influenza #outbreaks (Min. Agriculture, Oct. 28 '26)

{Extract}

    Following three bird flu outbreaks in a short period of time, State Secretary Silvio Erkens for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature is implementing measures, including a nationwide mandatory housing and shielding requirement.

    These measures are intended to reduce the risk of new infections.

State Secretary Erkens of LVVN: “Now that three bird flu outbreaks have been confirmed in a short period of time, we see that the risk of new infections is serious. To prevent as much suffering as possible for animals and entrepreneurs, I have decided to introduce a nationwide mandatory confinement and shielding requirement. I realize that poultry keepers with outdoor access and hobbyists will be hit hardest by this. Nevertheless, it is important to limit contact between captive birds and potentially infected wild birds as much as possible. In this way, we are doing everything we can to prevent new outbreaks.”
